Some lucky Junee residents had a brief brush with fame last week when The Highway Man passed through town.
Grant Cadorat, more commonly known as John, started wandering the highways of Australia in 1977 when he was just 22-years-old.
Mr Cadorat has not looked back in the 40 years that have since passed, living exclusively off the kindness of strangers and any food or money he happens to stumble upon in his travels.
Junee resident Lou Stapleton said she spotted Mr Cadorat around 8:30am last Wednesday when he was walking past their house.
“We offered him breakfast and a cup of coffee, but he said he was fine and thank you,” Ms Stapleton said.
“He wanted directions to the local IGA and then was heading to Cootamundra.
“It was a real pleasure meeting the man – a true ‘swagman’ and such a kind man – not much more was said and he went off on his merry way.”
While The Highway Man did not stick around for long, he has since been spotted safe and sound by residents in Cootamundra.
