Diesels issue a heartfelt apology for damage to the Laurie Daley Oval change rooms

The Junee Diesels have issued an apology to the community after damaging the Laurie Daley Oval change rooms following their final home game in August

It’s understood a few senior players were responsible for damage to internal walls and doors at the public facility.

The committee issued an apology in the form of a letter to The Junee Southern Cross this week.

“The behaviour of the individuals involved is unacceptable and will certainly not be tolerated by our Club,” the letter said.

“A new committee has recently been formed at our AGM and we would like to assure the Junee community that all damage has been repaired and paid for by the players concerned.

“There will be working bees held at the grounds to repair damage and complete unfinished work which will result in improved amenities.”

The letter also highlighted the player’s remorse for the post-match misbehaviour.

“Our players are extremely remorseful and wish they could undo what happened that evening,” it said.

“The work they are putting into our Club both with the repairs and with the Committee since this incident, has shown they are willing to repair the damage caused in more ways than the physical damage.”

Junee Shire Council general manager James Davis said the behaviour was unacceptable.

“While it was not significant in nature, Council can not condone such behaviour, particularly when it involves community buildings,” Mr Davis said.

“Thankfully, the Senior Rugby League committee have shown strong community leadership by providing a public apology and initiating programs to improve behavioural and cultural standards within the club.

“I’m hopeful that this experience provides a valuable lesson to those directly involved and the Council supports and acknowledges the committee’s actions to address this issue in the way they have.”
