Operations Manger at Goldenfields Water Tony Goodyer said the dark brown water was caused by multiple breaks in the past two weeks coming into the peak Summer period.
“Remediation work should have been finalised as of last Friday,” Mr Goodyer said.
“We’re currently doing monitoring and flushing programs in the surrounding towns including Coolamon and will do one in Junee if needed.”
Mr Goodyer ensured the water is safe to drink and discolouration occurs every time there’s a break in the town’s old pipelines. The colour is caused by a build up of grit and scale.
However, one Orr Street resident who wished to remain anonymous is fed up with the filthy water. She said her taps run brown once every 6-8 weeks.
“I stopped reporting it due to all they tell you to do is run a tap on your front lawn for half an hour and it should come clear. When I did report it I never saw a discount on my water bill," she said.
“It’s sad to say we’ve come to live with the quality of water we have. It’s horrible, I have lived in some flood-affected areas and never had water like this before.”
The resident said Goldenfields did once deliver her a tub of nappy-san to soak her washing in after her whites were stained by the water.
Lyndsay Murray, whose child attends a playgroup at the old CWA Hall said the dirty water has become a regular occurrence.
“Over the last 12 months it has happened too often,” she said.
She said the water was unclear on Wednesday when she went to fill up her son’s water bottle. Ms Murray said it’s been discoloured once every few months at the hall this year.
The town’s pipe structure is currently being upgraded, but work is expected to take many years to come.
Mr Goodyer said any customers with complaints shouldn’t hesitate to get in touch on 6977 3200 or on the after hours emergency line: 1800 800 917.
“We had one complaint last week where the grit clogged up a customer’s auto-sprinkler system in Junee while he was away, and he has been reimbursed for that dollar amount,” he said.
“Get in contact explain the situation and it will be looked at. Complaints are taken on case by case basis,” he said.
