The 4-2 victory knocked Young’s Lions into last on the ladder and came as a breath of fresh air to Junee, whose season has been marred by injuries and absences.
“It was a really good result,” coach Lincoln Weir said.
“It just goes to show if we do have a fresh 11 this is how we can play.”
After a slow start 20 minutes into the game Phillip Mason proved too much for the Lion’s defence, putting away the first goal of the match.
It was the start of something good with coach Lincoln Weir following up with a goal off a Merrigan corner around the 36th minute.
The Lions scored just before half time to bring the score to 2-1.
The second half was breezy for the Jaguars as Weir kicked himself to a hat trick, his second goal slotted off a Braiden Philipse nod on.
With 10 minutes left in the game Weir made the most of a final Merrigan corner to finish off with a comfortable 4-2.
Weir was buoyed by the victory after a slew of undermanned losses and draws.
“We didn’t have any excuses and came out strong,” he said.
He said the outlook is optimistic heading in to the final two games, starting with Leeton at Burns Park under lights on Saturday, August 19.
Their last meeting was one of the Jaguar’s worse performances, with Leeton delivering a crushing 7-0 over a depleted Junee at the MIA Sports Field on May 28.
Leeton beat South Wagga 4-2 at the weekend, ticking their wins over to 9 to sit comfortably in 4th.
