The old Junee Hospital has been described as “unrecognisable” by local developers who have spent the last six months transforming the historic building into a series of residential properties.

The development’s new owners will thrown its doors open to the public on Australia Day.
The hospital sat empty and abandoned between the Junee Multi-Purpose Service opening in July 2008 and developers purchasing the site in June last year.
It had been severely damaged by about eight years of weather damage and vandal attacks, the most recent of which came on Christmas Day.
The renovations have included repairing multiple water damaged ceilings, replacing broken windows, updating kitchens, painting walls and installation of floor coverings.
Spokesman for the developers Ray Blanchard said the building had been completely overhauled.
“There was a lot of water damage to the ceiling, and the water had also destroyed a lot of the carpet,” he said.
“That made it all very mouldy and smelly, but now it looks brilliant.
“We’ve taken away all the things that make it look like a hospital, such as the curtain rails, and now it just looks like a beautiful number of luxury apartments.”
Mr Blanchard said he had been inundated with requests to visit the hospital from residents who shared a special connection with the building.
“The building has played such an important part in Junee’s history, we feel obliged to give the community an opportunity reconnect with the property,” he said.
“We’ve had lots of people tell us stories of how they were born there, or came in with a broken arm, that kind of thing.
“We’ve also been approached by a lot of the nurses from over the years, they had a look around and told us all sorts of stories.
“They were all amazed to see what it looks like now.”
The building is owned by developers from Junee and Wagga.
It will be open to the public between 10am and 2am on January 26.
The property is located at 40 Button Ave, Junee.
