The talented Pascoe Cup player has signed up with Wagga City Wanderers.
Fry’s move to the Wanderers will be a loss for Junee’s Pascoe Cup team but it won’t put them out too much according to Junee coach Isaac Cooper.
“We’re at a bit of a luxury over here in Junee with two handy keepers,” Cooper said.
Fry’s willingness to sign with the Wanderers signifies a move in the right direction for the State League club that has struggled to recruit local senior players.
“It’s a good sign,” Wagga coach Andrew Douglas said.
When Wagga’s first-grade keeper Aaron Thomas bowed out early on, Douglas had no choice but to search for a replacement.
“If Liam (Dedini) goes down we’re in big trouble, that’s the bottom line,” Douglas said.
“We needed the extra keeper.”
Dedini has been holding the fort, playing in goals for first grade and under 20’s teams.
“Liam’s been doing a really good job with both grades,” Douglas said.
“He does a better job when he’s only having to concentrate on one.
“While it’s not always physically demanding, it’s mentally demanding.”
Douglas will start Dedini in first grade and Fry in under 20’s as Wagga plays Gazy Auburn at Gissing Oval on Saturday.
“Liam deserves his spot at the moment for what he’s done,”he said.
But the rest of the season’s a free-for-all, as Dedini and Fry will contend for the plum job.
