Firstly, Junee despite it’s distance to Wagga is clearly missing out because of the basic assumption – that everyone can easily get to the city.
Sure, there’s a train and there’s a bus service – neither of these are comprehensive as they could be.
Secondly, with governments taking the knife to services spending it means basic employment services which used to exist in town have been thrown to the four winds.
Just months ago, a new employment services contract meant Junee was left in Wagga’s shadow.
The second problem only makes things tougher for people without a car.
So to have a community centre – which has experienced cuts to its ability to provide services, still find a way to make a difference for some locals, it’s absolutely outstanding.
Not everyone has the good fortune to have set of working wheels and it’s a problem which should be better addressed.
You can’t always swing a good job without training and you can’t always get training without a car – allowing that situation to continue means it will get worse.
People without a job find it much harder to support their families and it means there’s one less person contributing to the community.
