This Saturday’s election will have a predictable result – a politician will be elected.
However, what is unique is that a politician representing a new seat will be elected.
If you go back far enough in history – 1941 to be precise – there was a previous electorate from Cootamundra, but for all intents and purposes, there is no incumbent.
Past election results suggest there’s a strong chance Katrina Hodgkinson will become the new state member.
Believing it to be a certainty would be a disservice to other candidates.
There’s little doubt they all have policy positions that need consideration.
This state has been competently led by the Liberal-National Coalition but whether competency is enough – and more importantly enough for the voters of Junee Shire or Cootamundra electorate is yet to be decided.
There are still plenty of challenges – from funding the state’s future infrastructure, education, health and emergency services and of course the future of local government.
That’s to say nothing of local issues – which candidates have largely been silent on.
What is important, however, is ensuring your vote is recorded.
Whether at pre-poll or on Saturday, March 28, the chance to vote without the threat of violence or fear is a valuable responsibility.
