The Rams returned to the Southern Inland Rugby Union (SIRU) competition in 2013 – winning their first premiership and following it up with a second last year.
With back to back premierships in the bag, tougher competition is expected to challenge the team.
Club captain Gus MacLennan said while a winning a third premiership would be attractive – it was more about having a good time with mates.
Remaining in third grade was the preference for the club giving the players the opportunity to commit to an entire season, but not a week-to-week commitment.
“The goal is to have a bit of fun, winning is a bonus,” MacLennan said.
“The guys are pretty keen this year, there’s been a lot of interest.
“A lot of the older players have already started their pre-season training.
“We’ve kept pretty much most of the playing group from last year,” he said.
One notable departure has been the club’s 2014 best and fairest Sam Hobbs, who has signed with Ag College.
Richard Skellern will return to coach for the third year and will be assisted by former first-grade and representative player Simon Brabin.
“He’ll help Richard manage the load of training and coaching,” MacLennan said.
While Brabin won’t be on field for the club, MacLennan said he would bring a wealth of experience to the club as a first-grade and third-grade premiership player.
“Our numbers are looking good with some new faces arriving – we’re expecting six new players,” MacLennan said.
“We welcome any new players of any skill or experience.”
Precise details of the third grade competition are still to be announced by SIRU).
With the Hay Cutters celebrating their 25th year of competition in 2015, MacLennan said the club expects the rivalry ignited in 2013 to continue.
“(Hay) will be fielding some tough competition.”
“(But) nominations will have to close before we know exactly who we’re facing,” MacLennan said.
This Sunday, the team will gather for a meet and greet at Loftus Oval before a light training run with a barbecue following.
“We’ll have specific details and costs for players,” MacLennan said.
Training will then held every Thursday until the round one begins on April 11.
