Councillors Bob Callow, Pam Halliburton and Neil Smith are among the nominees for the job.
The current deputy mayor Andrew Clinton made no indication whether he would recontest the vote.
"I haven't even thought about it."
However, should Cr Smith be successful in the top job - it could mean one less candidate.
Cr Callow welcomed the competition and said it was good to see people "having a go".
"If the mayor is unavailable, you've got to pick up the bat and run with it, you've still got to be focused and know council's stance on a particular issue," he said.
Having spent two years on council, Cr Halliburton is aiming to add to her experience and said she was passionate about supporting and working in local government.
"I have some experience now and would like the opportunity to further this in a different capacity," she said.
"I feel strongly about supporting the whole of Junee shire and feel that I have some success with this.
"I wish my fellow nominees all the best."
Meanwhile, councillors Col Randall, Jo Ward, Martin Holmes and Matt Austin ruled themselves out for either position.
"The position calls for a bit more experience than I have," Cr Austin said.
"To do either of those roles, the way they should be done, you need to a bit of extra time."
COUNCILLOR Martin Holmes isn't putting himself down to contest either the mayoral or deputy mayoral vote, but he believed it was time for change.
"This will be the fifth or sixth time that Neil Smith has nominated," he said.
"Clearly, he's keen and eager and his determination hasn't waned after so many defeats."
However, while he was keen to see change, Cr Holmes said Cr Cummins had done a terrific job being the face of Junee and helping drive it's progress.
"(But) there needs to be some change ... it's time for a bit of new blood," he said.
"I would like to see councillors give someone else a chance."
Cr Holmes said council could benefit from Cr Cummins continuing her role and work as the deputy chairperson of the Riverina Eastern Regional Organisation of Councils (REROC).
