The Bulls overwhelmed Junee to win by 40 points at Harris Park in Wagga.
The heavy defeat caps off a horror three weeks for the Diesels, who have steadily lost momentum over the closing stages of the home-and-away season.
Saturday’s game will also be the final one for captain-coach Damian Willis, who is retiring from both roles.
“I’m pleased with the effort we’ve had all year, but the last three weeks has been a bit of a letdown,” Willis said.
“It’s very disheartening the way we finished the season, especially considering the way we’ve played against some great teams.”
Willis is banking on the team pulling out all stops to register a win over the Gundagai Tigers to finish the year on a high note.
“We don’t want to go out there and be embarrassed,” Willis said.
Despite concern over the team’s performance against SouthCity, he is optimistic about the club’s future.
While admitting he had marked 2012 down as a rebuilding year, Willis said he focused on giving local players a guernsey rather than bringing outside talent.
Willis said players who stepped up from the under 18s – Luke Clarke, Daniel Foley, Hayden Diggins and Sebastian McInerney – would benefit from starting their first grade careers at an young age.
In his last game for the club, Willis is expecting to put on a show for the town and supporters who’ve helped the club all year.
