Police were called to the Stromlo area about 4.30pm and found a body "partially immersed" in the river.
On Sunday, police could not confirm exactly where the body was found, the age or gender of the body or who alerted officers to its whereabouts.
It is believed the body had been there for some time.
Formal identification is still underway and the Coroner has been called in for a post mortem report.
