Sam Drew, Ellouise Drew, Callum Hazelwood and Edward Moore will race in the Earl McGee 4 x 100 relay for small schools at Olympic Park.
It’s year 3 student Callum’s first ever race in a representative team, but he’s incredibly humble about the achievement.
“I’m the slowest runner and I have to try my hardest to catch up and use my arms to go faster,” he said.
After all the hard work, he’s looking forward to some RnR.
“The most exciting thing will be to stay at a motel for one night, swim in the pool and just relax,” he said.
The team have been training every day during recess since qualifying for state.
Runner number 3, year 6 six student Edward Moore said he’s been running since he could walk and loves the sport.
“We’re going to run on the track that Usain Bolt ran on,” he said.
Eurongilly won the Earl McGee relay in 2012 and the team are hoping to repeat history.
“They’re really trying hard, they’ve been so dedicated in their practice,” teacher Rachel Jarrett said.
The Earl McGee Small Schools Relay is for teams of students from schools with a total school enrolment not exceeding 25.
