All passed the strict assessment on Monday night, with 13 grading from white to yellow belts and one from yellow to green. 

The program at Tae Kwon Do SEAT has made waves in the community since it kicked off in late March, giving kids a sense of focus. 

“We only train once a week so it’s been a pretty long road,” instructor John Leak said. 

“It was a lot to learn in such a short time and a lot of parents have been really surprised how far they’ve come.

“Some have really changed in their attitude, maturing, behaving at school.

“The senior instructor was very impressed at how many of our seven tenets they knew and understood, in particular the tenet of self control.”

Mr Leak said the benefits are being felt students and their peers alike. 

“We had one kid the other day who was facing a potential fight at school, but he turned around and walked away,” he said.

“We use self defence as a last resort, only if you find yourself in a situation you can’t get out of by talking.”

Five more students will complete their grading during training on Monday. 

Training takes place in the Junee High School auditorium every Monday, 6.30 pm to 8 pm.
