Dubbo’s Apex Park was abuzz on Wednesday, April 9 with some of the best school-aged rugby league talent in the state on display.
Junee High took out the small school’s title with an impressive 52-16 hammering of Holy Trinity Inverell.
It’s a first for the school, who’ve never competed in the finals before.
Coach Matt Hands said there are some future Diesels in the mix among the students.
“It was our first crack at it so that’s very pleasing” coach Matt Hands said.
“They were excellent in the final especially considering the travel, some went up with their parents the night before and I took a few boys up that morning.”
“We hadn’t had the chance to do that much playing and only had the 12 players so it’s a big achievement.”
“They ended up running away with it.”
Sam Sainsbury scored a hat trick and Jack McCarthy, who scored one try and five goals toward the epic final score, was named best player by CRL.
