The community recently got behind a crowd-funding campaign for Mr Webb, who was battling throat cancer.
The family announced on Tuesday that raffle tickets would still be sold and the fundraiser would go ahead at the Junee RSL from 6pm on Saturday, with the money going towards supporting Mr Webb’s wife and children.
Chantelle Webb, Mr Webb’s niece, began the crowdfunding campaign following her uncle’s recent surgery in Sydney.
The family posted on the Facebook page Fundraising for Freddy Webb with the sad news.
“This is a very hard time for the family and we would like to let everyone know we appreciate your condolences and kind words even if we do not reply at this time,” it said. “Freddy was a good man with a big heart and will be missed by many.”
It’s not the first time the Junee community has rallied behind its own. In January, a large fundraiser was held for former Diesels player Sebastian McInerney after meningacoccal septicaemia attacked his body.
