Sophie Baldock, Millie Drum, Claire Rowett and Holly Fitzhardinge put in another fantastic effort, forcing the Giants to pass to heavily marked players and creating opportunities for intercepts and deflections. Addy Reberger, Scarlett Wilson and Clare Harris were also fabulous as their skills continue to improve. As shooters, their passing into the circle and within the circle, was amazing.
UNDER 14s Gems came away with a tough loss to Kooringal Black, 26 to 16. Matilda McDevitt improved by leaps and bounds along with Mykayla Parkhurst. Lara Drum played a good game in centre with lots of hard drives. Rory Rowett played a solid defensive game. Makita Jenkins played terrifically in GD with plenty of intercepts and deflections assisted by Mia Phillips. Trinity Johns shooting was on fire, assisted by Ella Fitzgerald.
UNDER 18s Storm played a nail biting goal-for-goal game. Down by five at three quarter time, they played an intense last quarter to beat Shooting Starts Hurricanes 51 to 50. Coach Jacqui Stevens said; “the team played a calm, steady game that paid off. They were awesome.” Josie Drum, Lilly Hodgson and Sarah Stevens played a very tight defence that slowed down the Hurricanes’ centre pass and provided opportunity for some excellent intercepts, whilst also providing plenty of support to the attackers. Jacinta Cooper and Brooke Harpley worked tirelessly in shooting.
Molly Hodgson and Elise Drum provided continual back up to both the defenders and shooters throughout the court, proving that short sharp passes were the key to the girls’ success.
