LAST weekend two of our three grades qualified for the next step in the pennant season journey, the Zone playoffs. Our top grade (4th Grade) travelled to Temora to battle Tumut for a spot in the final and an opportunity at the State Finals. In a match that went back and forth both teams fought for the crucial break, but both sides would not let each other get away from each other with Junee in front, then Tumut, back and forth they went until Tumut established a small break and Junee fell short by four shots, 56 - 52 to be eliminated from the campaign.
Fifth grade travelled to Albury to represent the club and district at the zone final and after beating West Wyalong on Saturday in round one, they easily accounted for Narrandera in the semi-final with all team on fire to win 69-41 and book their place in the final and another shot at the state playoffs, but fate would be against the Junee boys, facing Quandialla in the final.
After a back and forth start, Quandialla had a 10-shot break midway through the final but the Junee boys weren’t done with yet. On the back of a fine run highlighted by a six shot end, Junee narrowed the margin to just three shots and the game was back on for young and old with ten ends to play. Quandialla held their nerve and re-established another lead which was the straw that broke the camel’s back and Junee’s dream of another zone pennant and state final was over with Quandialla winning 65 to 55.
