With Junee up 3-2 and the final whistle just seconds away, Henwood Park’s Chris Oczkowski slotted a monster 40 yard goal to rob the Jaguars of their first win of the season.
The stunning equaliser saw Junee trudge off Rawlings Park both stunned and dejected.
“It was absolutely gutting,” coach Lincoln Weir said.
“Especially because we thought we dominated that game and could’ve scored five or six goals.
“We had some chances we would’ve finished during training but couldn’t manage in the game under pressure.”
Junee’s experienced men Lincoln and Adrian Weir and skipper Adrian Merrigan were relentless all game, able to beat several players at a time, and looked dangerous when they worked off one another.
Weir scored Jaguars’ first goal, while Merrigan ran through three defenders to score the second and topped it off with a third from the penalty spot.
But the away side’s veteran savvy was not enough, the Jaguars now hoping for a return from striker Nick Jones - who went down with a hamstring strain earlier this month - for some added punch in attack.
Adding further injury to insult for Junee was 15-year-old Harrison Weir taking a hit and suffering spinal spasms as a result.
He was monitored in hospital over the following days and is likely to return this week.
Junee now faces Cootamundra at Burns Park on Sunday.
The Strikers are one of just two sides to come away from their first three games with the full nine points, while Junee is still searching for its first win.
But the discrepancy in records has not shaken the confidence of the ever-optimistic Weir.
“We’ll go into this weekend feeling very positive,” he said.
“I really do think we can win.
“Coota are a very physical side but so are we.”
Weir said his side was showing signs of breaking into the winners circle.
“Coming in as coach this year I didn’t really know what I had or what we could do,” he said.
“But I’ve been really happy with the guys, they’ve surprised me.
“Now it’s time for us to put some points on the board.”
