Junee 88 d The Rock 48
LEADING the competition, 4th Grade hosted The Rock and were electrifying from the outset. Martin Holmes, Bryan Purse, Ian Cooper & Brett Fanning: The Fanning quartet were unstoppable, racing to a 10-0 lead after five ends, but let Waterhouse of The Rock back into the contest when they scored nine unanswered shots to trail by one, 9-10 after eight ends. Both teams scored multiple shots with Junee scoring a four on the 11th and The Rock an impressive six on the 12th. The score after 14 ends was tied at 17. The Junee quartet stepped up and crushed an hope The Rock had of securing the rink, with Junee winning six of the last seven ends to win 27-18.
Billy Seton, Allen Shaw, Warren Charlton & Sean Smith: With Smith returning after a week’s absence the match did not start as Junee would have hoped, trailing 5-7 after seven ends. But the slump was short lived with Junee banging on 11 unanswered shots over the next four ends to lead 16-7 at the halfway mark. The Rock reduced the margin to six shots with seven ends to go, but like the previous match Junee won six of the last seven ends to win, 26-13.
Roy Buckley, Noel Lawson, Craig Shaw & Martin Cousley: Junee started well leading 5-3 after seven ends. It was then that the Junee team absolutely lit up the green scoring 5, 5, 6, 4, 2 to blow The Rock out of the water and establish a 27-3 after 13 ends. Junee won the match convincingly, 35-17.
5TH GRADE
Junee 62 d RSL 62
JUNEE and RSL were playing for top spot at the RSL Club and it went right down to the wire. Jack Cousley, Jeff Chisholm, Roy Woodall & John Puttock: Junee started well but trailed by two shots 6-8 after seven ends, but RSL put the pressure on to lead 22-7, Junee battled hard but RSL were just too good winning 30-14.
Doug Gee, Jarrod Smith, Corey Hazell & Robert Minister: The Minister quartet started the match strong, leading 10-5 after seven ends, but RSL started to win their share of the ends with multiple shots to trail by just two shots after 14 ends, 16-14. A two shot fifteenth ends saw Junee increase their lead to 18-14, but disaster struck with RSL scoring a five shot sixteenth ends to take the lead 19-18 with five ends to play. Junee rallied to win the next three ends to take back the lead 22-19 with two to play and RSL managed to score a one on the penultimate end and despite the best efforts of the Junee quartet scored a three shot final end to win 23-22.
Jake Hersant, Jed Passlow, David Billingham & Kel Seton: The Junee quartet won the first seven ends to lead 16-0. During the next seven ends both Junee and RSL traded ends, but the margin remained the same at 16, 20-4.With RSL down by one shot on the overall board and one final end to play, the game was in the balance. Junee tried hard but RSL managed to score a single shot to tie the overall board, but lose the match 26-9.
