The film was shown on the same grounds it was filmed, a quirk event organisers claim to be a world first.
Son of Monte Cristo owners and Muirhouse stunt co-ordinator Lawrence Ryan said the night was an overwhelming success.
“We were expecting 100 people and we got 200,” he said.
“As people were leaving, 80 per cent of them were asking when the next one will be.”
The screening’s popularity has spurred Mr Ryan on to organise a horror film festival from the homestead within the next year.
The fictional film, which incorporates events alleged to have taken place at the Monte Cristo, follows author Phillip Muirhouse who was left alone at the haunted homestead to film a documentary for his latest book.
Muirhouse was shot on a budget of just $40,000.
