Lou Stapleton’s Hammond Street home was broken into and trashed last week.
The perpetrators did not steal anything, instead focusing their energy on destruction.
They threw clothing all over the house and shattered the doll house, leaving the stunned family to pick up the pieces.
Mrs Stapleton’s neighbours later told her they saw someone arrive at the house on three separate occasions that night.
She said the most heartbreaking part of the malicious act was watching her granddaughter, who the family requested remain anonymous, repeatedly attempt to repair her beloved childhood toy.
“She just kept saying ‘I fix it Nanny, I fix it’,” she said.
“It broke my heart.
“She loved that doll house, it was her favourite toy.
“Every time she came to Nan’s, she went straight to the doll house.”
Mrs Stapleton said her well-known status within her tight-knit neighbourhood meant she couldn’t help feeling like the attack was targeted.
“Everyone around here knows us and we’ve been living here for years,” she said.
“We’re a good family, we’re well-liked around here and I just can’t figure out why they’ve done this to us.”
The proud grandmother was in the process of moving houses when the break-in occurred, shifting most of her belongings out of the house earlier that day.
But Mrs Stapleton decided to leave her granddaughter’s favourite toy for the next morning, meaning she is now living with a looming “what if”.
“My kids even said to they’d come back and get it that night, but I said ‘no, we’re all too tired’,” Mrs Stapleton said.
“God knows how much damage they would’ve done if they’d broken in a few days earlier when the house was full.
“We were moving in excruciating heat, we were exhausted, and this came on top of everything else.
“I don’t want any charges laid, if they replaced the doll house things would be fine.”
