There were many yarns about Ken and the asset he was to the Marrar community.
Ken was highly regarded by the community as a “hard working bushie” who liked a beer on a hot or cold day.
Ken’s estate could not afford a funeral therefore a sub-committee was established at Marrar to cover the funeral expenses.
The fundraising committee applied to the Coolamon Shire community benefit account, which has been established to provide initial funding when there is a need to assist other members of the shire who are experiencing financial difficulty, whether it be due to a fire, or an unforeseen medical condition.
The Marrar committee asked the fund for a grant of $3000 from the community benefit account, with the aim that it would be paid back.
Well done to the fundraising committee, including Terry and Jenny Langtry, Brian and Helen McKelvie, Gavin and Collette Wallace, and Sue Sleaman.

Honouring our veterans
IN KEEPING with the National Centenary of Anzac Remembrance Celebrations, the Reserve Forces Day Council - Riverina (RFDC-R) will be conducting their Annual Reserve Forces Day Ceremony on Sunday, July 2 in the Victory Memorial Gardens, Wagga.
The theme for this year’s service will be the Battle of Messines.
This battle was fought on June 7, 1917 and was the first large-scale action involving Australian troops in Belgium.
And it also marked the entry of the 3rd Division, under Major-General John Monash, into a major battle for the first time.
Messines was an important success for the British Army leading up to the beginning of the Third Battle of Ypres several weeks later.
WWI medallions and Western Front war bars are still available to descendants of servicemen/women who served and took part in all phases of WWI.

Mariah’s bra bonfire
WATCHING Weekend Sunrise, they had a story of Mariah Carey burning her wedding dress from her recent wedding to James Packer. Watching, I thought “who cares”?
Then it struck me that if she burnt her bra, how many firemen it would take to put it out. Now, that is a story.

Pell’s convenient amnesia
HAVE we still got people out there making excuses for Cardinal Pell now that even more facts have been put on the table about his past actions?
Putting your head in the sand is not a defence.
I don’t even think it would pass the “pub test”, unless you are blind drunk. No person with such a senior job should have that bad a memory.

Snouts in the trough
REGARDING the recent news about parliamentary entitlements.
One can almost hear the tumbrells starting to roll towards Canberra.
This government is intent on bleeding dry honest workers, age pensioners and retirees.
They seem to be giving the finger to the public with their so-called benefits claims
