More than 100 locals kicked off You Matter Day with a walk from Loftus Oval to the Red Cow Hotel, before enjoying an afternoon of barbecues, face painting, auctions and Harley Davidson rides.
The day’s events combined to raise an estimated $15,000 for the Clarke and Murdoch family, who lost beloved family members to suicide.
Committee member Kelly Robinson said the day was made possible by a team of hard-working volunteers and had a drastic impact on those in attendance.
“We’re trying to break that stigma and tell people it's just a physical imbalance,” Ms Robinson said.
“If you had asthma you wouldn’t avoid seeking help and getting a puffer from your doctor.”
It was a highly emotional day with suicide prevention advocate Patrick Lawson speaking about his struggles with mental health.
“There wasn’t a dry eye in the place,” Ms Robinson said.
