The nomination came on the back of the local CWA branch’s domestic violence forum in June which attracted over 100 attendees and featured figures from NSW Police, Domestic Violence NSW and Sisters Housing Enterprises.
“Everyone is very proud of what we’ve managed to achieve,” CWA Junee secretary Gemma Marshall said.
Mrs Marshall said tackling domestic violence had long been a strong focus for CWA NSW and the local branch decided it was time to take additional action.
“The forum openly informed people on an issue that had been hidden away and let them know that there are services to help,” she said.
“People were pleased that an organisation had said ‘hang on a minute, this is something that’s happening in this town’.”
“One person even said it was the best thing to ever come to Junee.”
