Elaine is survived by her children and children-in-law, Jeffrey and Tanya, Leanne, Glenda and Simon, and Sandra and Ian, and her grandchildren Lincoln, James, Jordan, Michael, Anthony, Craig and Faith and Elaine’s brother Graham and his family.
Elaine was born in Junee on July 5, 1937 to Edgar William (Ned) and Edith Joyce Butt of ‘Kahmoo’. Elaine went to school at Wantiool and Junee before training as a nurse at Wagga Base Hospital, graduating in 1960. Elaine nursed at the Junee and Batlow hospitals. Following her marriage to William Dudley Grady in 1960, Elaine moved to ‘Tarcoola’, Bago Lower, and worked alongside Dudley on the farm while also raising her family. ‘Tarcoola’ was her home for 44 years. Elaine moved to Tumut in 2005 and then Canberra in 2013.
Elaine was a keen family historian, an avid gardener and she loved travelling, seeing much of Australia as well as overseas trips to New Zealand and the UK and US. She was an accomplished dressmaker, drafting her own patterns in the early years. Her creativity flowed into her embroidery, photography, flower arranging and cake decorating. Elaine was an active member of the Batlow View Club and Tumut Scrabble Club at which her morning tea contribution was always home-baked.
A service to celebrate Elaine’s life was held on May 7 at St Stephens Uniting Church, Tumut. Her daughter Sandra gave the eulogy followed by readings by daughters Leanne and Glenda and grandchildren Faith and Lincoln. Pallbearers were her brother Graham, cousin Leon, sons-in-law Simon and Ian, and grandsons Jordan and Craig. Elaine was laid to rest in the Adelong Cemetery beside Dudley.
Elaine’s family would like to thank Beavan’s Funeral Home, Ron Biggs, Clarice Ross, the Adelong S&C Club and volunteer group, and Winsome Sharp.
