It was a simple comment during Junee’s Australia Day celebrations which started it.

Now, the Junee Lifestyle Village has taken a massive step forward and there’s every chance something will happen.
Just having the land itself is a big step forward, it gives developers a certainty and hopefully a retirement village for Junee’s residents.
It’s something this community needs and not just for the sake of it.
As Junee’s 2014 Citizen of the Year, Adrian Eisenhauer said, it’s about keeping the people that make this community in the community.
But just having the land doesn’t deliver the final outcome of a lifestyle or retirement village.
There is more work to be done and there’s no reason why a developer either for-profit or not, can work with the community to deliver something worth having.
The shire council, Junee Business and Trades and residents need to get behind the Junee Lifestyle Village committee to attract a partner.
The development won’t just be a place to rest a weary head, but a worthwhile investment in the community which will deliver jobs and inject funds into the local economy.
With space for up to 50 lots it’s unlikely there would be many organisations who would pass on the opportunity.
Time to move on
This is the final edition of the Junee Southern Cross that Declan Rurenga will be writing and editing.
After five years, it’s time to find a new challenge in the city of Orange.
The time and patience people have shown has been immense and greatly appreciated.
Without the help of residents, contributors, businesses, clubs and community groups, there have would have been little to write about and less to read.
There are few small towns and communities in regional Australia with their own newspaper.
It’s not just about bragging rights or history though. It’s about highlighting the community’s needs, stories and successes, there are few better ways to do that than through the paper.
The Southern Cross will continue to be published every Thursday and online at www.juneesoutherncross.com.au.
