Tumbarumba didn’t let Junee run away with the game and made sure the Diesels pushed to secure victory.
“They’ve put together a good side this year,” captain Trent Schubach said.
“It was a bit of a struggle, they’re always tough at home, but it’s good for the competition. They’ve improved in every game.”
Schubach said it was a good test for the Diesels as they came off the bye and said there was room for improvement.
The Diesels won 32-22 and after having the advantage at half-time they sealed the win with two tries in the final 10 minutes.
“We were slow to start but we got the better of them in the end,” he said.
Stepping in for coach Matt Hands during the game, Schubach highlighted Patrick Guthrie in his first game after injury, Patrick Sweeney as well as Peter Little and Daniel Foley with solo try efforts.
Meanwhile, Junee will be without Rhys Clemson after he broke his leg against the Greens.
“It’s a big loss for us, but disappointing for him, he spent a few years dealing with a wrist injury,” Hands said.
“He was getting back to his best form and now he’s out again.”
Hands was not worried about the injury list which includes Brad McCarthy as he believed the club’s depth would fill the gaps.
“The reserves have hit some good form and some players have first-grade experience,” he said.
“(Tumut) is another danger game, they’ve matched it with a few sides this year.”
The game against the Blues will be held at Laurie Daley Oval and Hands said the team wanted to put on a show for supporters.
“We’ve not had great performances at home, we have been winning, but not the way we want to,” he said.
“We want to put a good 80 minutes together, our best footy is still ahead of us.”
