The team had a one goal lead until the dying minutes of the game when Wagga United snuck past to steal it.
The Jaguars and Wagga United were level at half-time before Junee took the lead in the second half.
It wasn’t until the final 10 minutes of the game when United pounced on a slight fade from the defending premiers to bag two goals and the game.
“It was the one that got away from us,” coach Isaac Cooper said.
Cooper pulled no punches in describing the team’s performance and said players switched off.
“I’m pretty disappointed to be leading 2-1 until the last nine minutes … we didn’t play the full 90 minutes.”
Former United coach and now Junee player Travis Weir scored the Jaguars’ first goal. Weir’s goal levelled the scores after Jaguars scored an own goal.
In the second half, Geoff Euhus kicked the team’s second goal. Cooper said for the majority of the game, Jaguars were the team to beat and dominated the play. He praised Jade Becroft and Weir for their performance.
“It was just little moments which let us down, we should have buried them, we had multiple chances but we didn’t capitalise on them,” he said.
It means Junee needs to deliver on the potential they have been showing during their recent games when they face Lake Albert this weekend.
Cooper warned the players about being complacent and wants them to push until the final whistle.
“It’s getting tight, we need to start putting results in our favour and putting away games,” he said.
“I’m hoping the boys can bounce back from the tough loss and get their mindset changed for Sunday.”
The news only gets worse for the Jaguars with Euhus and Nick Jones struggling with ankle complaints.
Cooper was under no illusion the Lake Albert Sharks would be a tough opponent.
“I watched them on the weekend, I know where they’re strong and they carry a strong attacking game, we’ll need to shut that down,” he said.
“They’re very good across the park and their attacking play is impressive.”
