The good, the bad and the ugly of the 44th Parliament

It seems like an age but the 44th Parliament began only 2½ years ago. As it officially closes ahead of the eight-week election campaign, here are the highlights and lowlights, some you may have forgotten and some you'll wish you could.

The good

  • January 2015: Rosie Batty's appointment as Australian of the Year forced attention and action on family violence, an issue left untouched for too long.
  • July 2015: Following the unexpected death of Western Australian MP Don Randall, MPs on all sides of Parliament united to pay respect. A white rose has adorned his former seat in the House since.
