Mr Clough of “Windermere”, runs livestock and crops and will start sowing canola and winter crops soon after the rain.
Like many in the Riverina he has already dry sown some paddocks but was waiting on a break.
Mr Clough said he was hoping for 15 to 20mm out of the rain which arrived on Friday afternoon and was forecast to continue into the weekend.
“All of the paddocks are prepared for sowing,” he said.
Some the crops, sown earlier on in March, had started to emerge and were set to benefit from the rain event too.
He said the rain was needed to fill dams and ensure supplies of stock water.
Meanwhile, livestock producers will benefit from the rain too with lucerne and grazing crops set to receive a welcome boost.
According to the cattle draw from the Wagga Livestock Marketing Centre 4992 head will go under the hammer on Monday with vendors hoping for good prices following weekend rain.
