Riverina MP Michael McCormack has been rumoured to be one of two contenders to replace leader Warren Truss.
With Mr Truss’ resignation imminent, a ballot has been called for 8pm on Thursday.
Agriculture minister Barnaby Joyce, who is also the current deputy leader, is also expected to nominate to replace Mr Truss.
Meanwhile, seven other Nationals MPs are predicted to be nominating to contest the deputy leader’s job.
