Held at Wagga’s RSL Club, Miss Baxter will join more than 20 other showgirls from Griffith to Cootamundra and The Rock.
“There’s a misconception that it’s about putting a girl on a pedestal to talk about agriculture,” Miss Baxter said.
“It’s about all promoting regional shows and developing the future.
“You’re always speaking in front of people, the smallest number of people I’ve spoken in front of is 30.”
Three Riverina representatives will be selected to head to the Royal Easter Show, with judging taking place over the entire day from morning to dinner.
“There’s a bit of pressure,” Miss Baxter said.
After winning the competition at the Junee Show in October, Miss Baxter attended deportment class in Dubbo.
“It puts a perspective on the competition,” Miss Baxter said.
“They’re great representatives for their towns and exceptional people.
“The girls that enter this are astounding.”
As part of the deportment class, Miss Baxter spoke about growing up in Junee.
She the Newcastle winner came up to her said she her passion for the town had inspired and convinced her to visit.
“I would encourage any young woman to get involved, it’s a great platform for self-improvement,” she said.
“The steps you take after winning don’t do anything but benefit you later in life.”
