Mayor Neil Smith and deputy mayor Pam Halliburton are expected to put their hands up for their roles for a second term.
Opposition to their nomination is so far light on the ground, with most councillors either backing the incumbents or still to decide.
Former mayor Lola Cummins has not decided whether she would re-contest and was keeping her options open.
“I will decide closer to the date.”
Councillor Martin Holmes said he was happy to back the existing leadership team and with change in local government foreshadowed by the state government, Junee needed stability.
Cr Holmes said the leadership styles of the mayor and deputy complemented each other and hoped Cr Lola Cummins would remain as council’s delegate to REROC.
“With Fit for the Future, we need to stick with the same team,” he said.
Councillors Bob Callow, Jo Ward and Matt Austin said they would not be contesting either position.
“We need stability, the current team are doing a good job,” Cr Callow said.
Cr Andrew Clinton said he had not yet made a decision about nominating.
Meanwhile, mayor Neil Smith said he had already dropped his nomination form into council.
“It’s been a good learning experience, those early months I found it challenging,” Cr Smith said.
“I hope I’ve done a good job, but the only way to find out is through the votes around the table.”
He said during his time, he had attempted to ensure all opinions around the table had been canvassed.
“I’ve tried to include other councillors in functions and representative roles,” Cr Smith said.
Cr Smith said Junee shire needed to “grow more mayors”.
“I would encourage people to put their name forward,” he said.
“Sadly it does require a bit of time, the people who have the skills, don’t necessarily have the time though.”
Cr Pam Halliburton said her year as deputy mayor had been valuable and fulfilling.
“I feel like I’ve contributed a lot to Junee shire as a whole. I’ve got to know the shire a bit better,” Cr Halliburton said.
“I hope that I have the confidence of fellow councillors to remain as deputy.”
