A glorious day when they win, no doubt.
There’s everything to suggest the Jaguars will head into the Football Wagga finals with the minor premiership – a testament to the hard work the club and team have put in.
Their results have been boosted by the arrival of men’s state league Wagga Wanderers player Johny Mathers.
A handy man to have on the park, every game Mathers has appeared in he’s made a difference – helping to lift the Jaguars performance.
The only unfortunate part of the deal is Wanderers’ players can’t participate in the finals series. Why send the players to play in club matches if they can’t go all the way with their team?
Bringing players down from what has become the region’s best team to club level makes a better game for spectators – which is what it’s all about, watching local sport and getting away from the television.
Although it’s understandable since the Wanderers paid for Mathers to come to Wagga, it still seems silly to disqualify players who are very keen to play the game they love.
Perhaps instead of barring players outright, they have to appear a number of times to qualify for the finals? Wanderers can keep their players and clubs can continue to put on a show for spectators.
