Hume Group of CWA president, Helen Sheridan welcomed members as they gathered for their July council meeting this time on a Saturday to give the members of the three evening branches an opportunity to attend.
While there is an evening branch in Cootamundra, members were saddened by the fact that the Cootamundra Day Branch of CWA had closed after 90 years of service to the district.
The branch was able to distribute to four local organisations $1000.
The Cootamundra Hospital will use their donation to purchase of a special skin grafting knife.
Beetroot is the product being promoted by CWA this year and it was amazing to see all the products Sue McDonald had put together from beetroot chips, relish, pickles etc. and all the different variety of beetroot seeds.
Members will have an abundance of beetroot when they harvest what they have planted.
Ellen Williams, group representative, gave a comprehensive report on the executive meeting.
CWA of NSW has gone into partnership with some organisations.
They have given $160,000 to the Salvation Army for the implementation of rural alcohol and other drugs (AOD) program to provide a mobile and responsive weekly service in key geographical locations in NSW and $50,000 to the Rape & Domestic Violence Services Australia to provide professional development opportunities for workers in rural areas.
Some members had attended a very informative CWA of NSW facts day at Wagga where all questions were answered.
Members had researched Aboriginal artist David Malinga whose painting was used on the one dollar note.
Handicraft officer Ann Pratt has included a toy, no larger than 15cm in height, in the handicraft competition and these toys will be donated to the local hospitals and ambulance stations.
The school children from the Hume Group have been busy with entries in the international competition on Italy.
All prize winners at the branch level will be judged at the group International Day.
The Land cookery schedules have been circulated and Gemma Marshall has more available.
This competition is open for CWA members and members of the general public.
We look forward to seeing members for a morning of fun with the cultural items from the branches and an informative international afternoon learning about Italy at the Eurongilly Hall on September 23.
All members of the public are welcome to attend.
