First grade coach Matt Hands said both he and team were quietly confident they would be able to build further momentum this weekend.
“We’re not taking it easy, there’s no easy games this year,” Matt Hands said.
He said the Greens were on the back end of a few bad results and there was nothing stopping them turning that around on Sunday.
“We’ve got good momentum after wins against Albury, Temora and Cootamundra,” Matt Hands said.
Matt Hands said the the Diesels needed to work on their defence and plug the point leaks.
“We’re leaking too many points, it’s not about shoring up the for and against, but it means we don’t have to score 40 points (to win),” he said.
Keeping the structure tight and strong was a key topic at training.
Meanwhile, under 18s coach Rod Hands said Tumbarumba’s team was struggling.
“We’re pretty confident, if we don’t win, we’ve got problems,” he said.
While Rod Hands said Junee be winners at full-time he said the Diesels should take no chances as underestimating the Greens could cause problems.
Rod Hands said he wanted to see the under 18s improve their for and against stats and said the entire team should be on deck with no injuries.
The under 18s also notched a thrilling win against Temora, down 22-18 with four minutes, a kick by Cameron Hands became a try by Joel Kelly on the final whistle.
A sideline goal kick turned the deadlocked score to a two point win.
“(Temora) are one of the strongest sides in the competition,” Rod Hands said.
A good win against Cootamundra was spoiled a little by some push and shove but Rod Hands said club’s coaching staff had spoken to the team to ensure discipline was under control.
Both coaches are keen to see plenty of spectators at Laurie Daley Oval on Sunday, May 31.
“It definitely makes a difference when we’ve got a strong home crowd,” Matt Hands said.
