The game was a struggle for dominance and there were patches of great football – a pointer to how well the Junee team is progressing. Junee has drawn against the two top teams over the past three weeks and could have taken both games.
Both teams created many chances and only tremendous goalkeeping by Sara Smart kept Tolland out.
Junee’s defensive effort with Steph Puttock, Chelsea McGregor (until forced off through injury), Suz Waia, Teagan Foley, Abby Foley and Nic Baldry was committed and very determined to negate Tolland’s efforts.
Abby Duncan, Foley, Ash Goode, Prue Duncan and Chloe Middleton worked tirelessly in the mid-field and kept the Tolland players under pressure. Wingers and Strikers Kara Hancock, Morgan Goode, Duncan and Taylah Howell and Olivia Howell created many chances and kept the pressure on the Tolland goalkeeper and defence.
The game was played in good spirit and Junee kept pushing the opposition and seemed to come home stronger.
A smart attacking run by Puttock saw a perfect cross beat the keeper and unfortunately the two Junee attackers following in.
Best for Junee in an tremendous team effort were Steph Puttock, Teagan Foley, Sara Smart and Suz Waia. Junee will meet Cootamundra at Burns Park on Sunday.
Madden Trophy
JUNEE’S Madden Trophy team met Tolland last Sunday at Burns Park and came away with a solid one-all draw in a very tight game.
Junee’s lone scorer was Nell Keough who placed a nice shot over the Tolland keeper. Junee’s defence was solid and Hannah Turner in goal played well and was ably supported by Sara Smart, Keough, Laine Seary, Nic Baldry and Phoebe Quinn.
The game was tight, and a lot of work by Junee’s midfield of Kara Hancock, Taylah Howell, Chloe Middleton, Nikka Ryan and Megan Puttock provided Junee with many opportunities.
A lapse in concentration gave a Tolland player too much time on the ball and a long range shot was made that dropped in to the Junee goal and resulted in the full-time score of one-all.
Best for Junee in a solid team effort was Genelle Keough, Sara Smart, Taylah Howell and Jasmine Corbett.
Junee will meet Cootamundra Sunday, 9am at Burns Park.
