The school has been recognised as one of seven – from among 1000 high schools across the state – as a “lighthouse school”.
What it means for teachers, is they will now be working to assist other schools develop their agricultural programs, strengthening the sector.
Having young people take on agriculture as a viable career is vital to ensure Australia can do its best to feed the globe.
For students it means they have the opportunity not only to consider agriculture as a future career, but it’s some of the best education in the state without having to travel Yanco or Sydney.
What does it mean for residents though?
It means the support farmers and town residents have given the school has paid off, whether it was donating lambs, scrap metal or a bit of feed – that support will lead to long-term benefits.
The high school also sharing their knowledge and resources with the primary schools only lead to greater things in future.
Junee is already on the map through the licorice factory, rugby league pedigree, Monte Cristo, rail heritage and agricultural production – now it can add agricultural education to the list.
Hopefully the school can build upon its first announcement as a lighthouse school for agriculture and add further subjects.
