The Wagga power-house side was blind-sided as the Jaguars pulled together their passes and Matt Ward struck the ball past the goalkeeper.
Just last week, coach Isaac Cooper said Junee had put in one of their best efforts of the year and flagged further improvement.
Against Tolland the Jaguars delivered more improvement.
“We kept our structure together, strung our passes together and sunk a few into the back of the net,” Cooper said.
He said Ward’s goal in 20 seconds was one of the quickest starts to a game he had ever seen.
“It was six passes and Matt Ward scored, it kept going from there.”
Ward scored the team’s second goal and Cooper said it was perfect example of a team pressuring the opposition.
Cooper said the pressure yielded a mistake from Tolland’s full-back and left the ‘keeper exposed allowing Ward another goal.
“It’s great for his (Ward’s) confidence and the team’s confidence,” Cooper said.
Cooper said Adrian Merrigan sealed the win scoring a third goal in an impressive performance, also impressing the coach was midfielder Ray Jones.
“Ray Jones said he played his best game so far this year,” he said.
While happy with how Junee had played, Cooper wasn’t left along in goals with a few chances needing a good save to keep the score sheets clean.
He said the team’s back line did a sterling job of shutting down any serious attempts by the Wolves to get points on the board.
So far this season, Junee’s four games with clean sheets have the team sitting on top of the ladder with for and against.
Cooper warned the team couldn’t get ahead of themselves however when it came to this weekend’s game against Cootamundra.
“We’ve noticed this year the competition is a bit tighter and stronger … Cootamundra always play a tough game,” he said.
This weekend the Junee Jaguars will host their ‘pink round’ with all give grades playing against the Cootamundra Strikers.
Junee players will be wearing a bit of pink with all donations going towards Junee Can Assist.
