Junee dominated much of the game but didn’t have it all its own way with South Wagga putting up a sharper performance than the last time the sides met.
With Genelle Keough tending goal, and Junee’s defenders in Prue Duncan, Chelsea McGregor, Teagan Foley and Suz Waia all playing strongly, Junee was able to keep the South Wagga attack quiet for much of the game.
A lapse of concentration saw a goal conceded in the 21st minute after Junee had taken an early lead through Keely Hancocks goal.
Junee stepped up the pressure and proceeded to roll another six goals past the hapless South Wagga keeper with Keeley Hancock scoring another, Olivia Howell scoring two, Abby Duncan, Abby Foley and Ashleigh Goode chiming in with a goal a piece.
Junee’s engine room of Abby Duncan, Ashleigh Goode, Abby Foley and Kara Hancock worked tirelessly all game and were able to control the centre and keep Junee driving forward providing plenty of attack options and were deadly in defence.
Olivia Howell, Keeley Hancock and Morgan Goode were also working well all game and played strong hands in keeping the attack moving forwards.
Overall it was a very strong performance and with only one sub made all game, the fitness levels of the players is beginning to show through and they are benefitting from their hard work with good on field performances.
Best for Junee was Ashleigh Good, Abby Duncan, Olivia Howell and Suzanne Waia.
Junee meets top of the ladder Tolland next Sunday at Burns Park in their first home game of the season and it should be a cracker.
MADDEN TROPHY
JUNEE’S Madden Trophy team met South Wagga at the Wagga Showgrounds on Sunday and came away 5-1 winners in another very strong display.
The team is beginning to come together well and the passing is improving and showed out very strongly in this game.
A lack of panic by the players saw some very good phases of passing the ball to get out of trouble instead of blasting and hoping. The side is maturing and developing some very strong teamwork and cohesion that will see them continue to improve their overall game.
Hannah Turner played in goal first half, and didn’t touch the ball other than in the warm up such was the strength of the Junee defence in front of her with Genelle Keough, Phoebe Quinn, Laine Seary, Sara Smart and Ashley Fitzgerald continually turning any South Wagga attack around and send Junee’s midfield and strikers off into attack.
Chloe Middleton, Nikka Ryan, Kara Fitzgerald and Taylah Howell held the middle strongly and were creating many opportunities for the forwards to go into attack.
A hat-trick of goals came off the boot of Jasmine Corbett and she was ably assisted by Taylah Howell and Hayley Hocking in keeping the score ticking over.
A lapse in concentration saw a goal conceded but Junee kept the pressure on and ran out convincing winners with plenty of improvement still to come from this group.
Best for Junee was Sara Smart, Jasmine Corbett, Taylah Howell and Nikka Ryan.
Junee meets Tolland next week at Burns Park in what should be another good test for the team.
Junee under 12s v Tolland Wolves
Saturday, May 16, 2015
THE under 12s had a fantastic game this week defeating the Tolland Wolves six goals to two.
Junee welcomed two new players to the team, Dylan Gustowski and Simon Evers.
Both boys played tremendously, with Dylan scoring five goals and setting up many more.
The other goal scorer this week was Peter Guymer.
The back line consisting of Connor Barrett, Natasha Lamb and wide players Lachlan Payne and George Harrison were a great team at the back proving too tight for the attacking team.
Mid-fielders Ineka Hart, Georgia Foley and Grace Mcgrath were able to use their fantastic ball skills to take the ball from the opposition and pass it down to the forwards.
Forwards Peter Guymer, Hannah Stevens and Dylan Gustowski were able to show off their fancy footwork as they finished off the play with a goal.
It was a fabulous game to watch and a much deserved win.
