Hosting the Lions at Burns Park, the thrilling match kept spectators on edge as Junee scored first through Lachlan Bushby.
An equaliser from Young left the scores level at half-time before both teams kicked up a gear in the second half to break the deadlock.
The Jaguars had the game in the bag after a free-kick by Martin Bushby towards the top-corner of the goal ended up as an own-goal by Young.
The Lions weren’t helped after a red card to Jarod Schiller for swearing left them stranded with 10 players.
Junee coach Isaac Cooper said it was great to get the points putting equal first in the competition alongside South Wagga.
“We probably played our best game of the year, but we’re a long way off par,” Cooper said.
“There’s a lot of improvement to come yet,” he said.
“There’s always things you can tinker with to make improvements throughout the season.”
With injuries leading to a reshuffle among players, Cooper said the team’s structure needed serious work to keep it strong during a game.
“It fell away and cost us a goal, it’s something we need to work on,” he said.
Outside of the one goal, Junee’s defenders helped keep the game in Junee’s hands.
Cooper highlighted the effort of Jason Mutimer in the midfield, Jade Becroft in the back line and Matt Carvosso who stepped up from reserve grade.
“We had a few players in different positions, it helped us going forward.”
Cooper said Ray Jones had been moved back in to the midfield and helped set up a goal for Lachlan Bushby.
This Sunday Junee will host the Tolland Wolves at Burns Park.
“Tolland are always a hard game and they’re having a good run,” Cooper said.
Last weekend the Wolves drew with Henwood Park.
Cooper remained confident the Jaguars would bring the game to one of Wagga’s biggest clubs.
“We’ll wait and see what they bring out on field on Sunday.”
