During Illabo’s Anzac Day service he read out this poem to the 60 people gathered at the village’s cenotaph.
Red Poppy by Harry Pratt
Friends and family who go to war,
We hope they do not fall.
They left to protect us to the great unknown
Through letters and stories their courage is shown.
They were but boys in a man’s war
From the trenches to the desert horrible things they saw.
In Flanders Field our soldiers bled
From the blood shed, poppies turned red.
