Even something as a simple test jump is done through a ring of fire.
“I’m so happy to get the first test jumps out of the way,” he said.
“Even the small jumps frighten me still.”
Since the arrival and of his new Harley Davidson XR750s, Mr Ryan has been busy preparing for a 25th anniversary tour celebrating his career as Junee’s own daredevil.
Mr Ryan has said before there will be testing and tinkering to ensure the bikes were ready for six unique jumps.
Designed and built to be used in motorcycle racing, the big Harleys are far removed from motocross bikes that are normally used for stunts and jumps.
“The Harley Davidson XR750s are big and heavy with no similarities to a motocross bike at all,” he said.
“It’s like learning to ride (and jump) all over again.”
Following the first test jumps – which were photographed for Mr Ryan’s upcoming book marking his extraordinary career – there will be plenty more work, and not just mechanical, to be done on the bikes.
This week Mr Ryan is testing two new mixes of race fuel graded at 102 and 105 octane, much more powerful than the 98 octane fuel available at petrol stations.
“People will be given plenty of the notice on the upcoming stunts which will be held in my home town of Junee,” Mr Ryan said.
“Not only will it bring people from all over to see these amazing jumps, it will hopefully keep people in our wonderful town for the day.”
Planning has already started for Mr Ryan’s upcoming book tour slated for June with launches planned for Wagga, Bathurst, Orange, Sydney and Melbourne.
