Facing the Young at Laurie Daley Oval the visitors moved quickly to score after a mistake close to Junee’s line.
Down by four points, Junee rallied and put in a fearsome defence.
“I’m really happy with the girls’ defence, it was insane,” captain-coach Elise Smith said.
Smith said the team made it hard on themselves by dropping the ball after two or three touches, with Cherrypickers continuing to pile on the pressure.
Despite the mistakes Smith said she was impressed with the team’s hard running and talk across the paddock which kept the team in the game.
In the second half Junee got over the line for four points with Maddison Fischer levelling the scores.
It remained 4-all at full-time.
“It was a pretty even game, we made a lot of mistakes in the first half, they kept coming at us and we made it hard on ourselves.”
Smith said with a bit of training on their ball security and attack the team would improve.
She highlighted Billie Deacon, Lauren McAulliffe, Lauren Daley, Maddison Fisher and Tina McPherson as some of Junee’s best.
“It’s good to have such a good bunch of girls, it makes coaching a lot easier,” she said.
This weekend Junee will play the inform Gundagai Tigers at Laurie Daley Oval.
Smith said it would be a tough game and her advice to players was to play each game as if it was a grand final.
“The girls will go out there and continue to improve (with each game).”
