This weekend he makes a return when the Diesels play the Young Cherrypickers in Group Nine’s second round.
“It’s always good playing at home in front of family and friends, hopefully we’ll get a good turnout,” Schubach said.
“I haven’t played there since I was 17.”
The Diesels should face a strong challenge from Young who scored a massive victory over Tumbarumba, scoring 72 points.
“Winning form is good form and we’ve both had that, but it’s hard to tell this early in the season,” Shuchbach said.
He said the Diesels would be looking for another win to build their premiership hopes.
The team has already started delivering on its pre-season hype with an impressive 50-16 win over the Brothers.
Last weekend Brothers got the ball rolling by scoring the first try, but from there it was one way traffic.
The Diesels led by 20 points at half-time and only continued the onslaught in the second half.
Schubach lead the Diesels as captain and said he was impressed with how his team responded after being pushed early.
“Brothers were on the front foot to start with and then we scored a couple of quick tries to get on top towards the back end of the half,” Schubach said.
The changes to Junee, led by the recruitment of Peter Little, has had tongues wagging in Group Nine circles and their initial performance has done nothing to dampen the club’s hopes.
“We had a lot of expectations on the back of us as we’ve had a good start through trials with the final of the West Wyalong Knockout, winning the Cootamundra 9s and winning our two trials,” he said.
“Everyone has big wraps on us so it was good to get out first game out of the way and hopefully we can get some momentum from there.
“It was a bit scrappy but that’s what you expect for the first game of the year.”
Tristan Dixon led the Diesels try-scoring efforts.
