The foundations of the third house were laid last September and the house completed in March.

Marie Henderson, her partner Barry and two children, Kaiden and Levi and two dogs moved in last week.

Project manager Liz Evers said the family had put in more than 1000 hours of ‘sweat equity’ working on the house.

Volunteers helped to complete a new kitchen, flooring, electrical work, plumbing, tiling, painting, verandah, car port, fencing, concreting and gardening.

“We’re happy this project is finished but happier for the family moving in here,” Mrs Evers said.

“They’re a wonderful family and it will make a difference to the kids as they have a yard to play in,” she said.

Struggling in the rent cycle, Ms Henderson said owning her own home appeared to be an unachievable dream.

Instead of paying rent money and moving on a regular basis, the family will now pay off a loan from Habitat for Humanity.

“I always said to Barry that it’d be great to have our own place but we never thought it would happen because of the costs of saving (for a deposit),” she said.

Ms Henderson said one of the best aspects were the children were able to play in the yard which was secured.

“It's good for the children, life will be more stable.”

Mrs Evers said there would be a fourth house which would be built and was expected to arrive in June.

Initially built by Austwide Homes in Wagga before being completed on site.
