Having recently moved to Junee, Miss Buchanan has started her new business – the Bodyhype Bootcamp.
Catering exclusively to women, it aims to give ladies the chance to work on their fitness and learn exercises they can do themselves.
“I want to make fitness fun … the gym can be daunting,” she said.
The key is an eight-week program, which provides baseline measurements for participants and gives them a good chance to make progress.
Miss Buchanan said the positive and supportive atmosphere welcomed people of all experiences and ages – from teenagers to seniors.
With weight loss and improved fitness being the end goals, some participants had moved onto higher levels, but she said it wasn’t required.
“Some of our girls are getting stronger and we’ve started introducing weights,” Miss Buchanan said.
The results have included participants losing up to nine and 10 kilos, while others have lost up to five and 17 centimetres from their waist measurement.
“They’ve grown from girls who can’t do any sit-ups and in eight weeks they can now do 20 or 30 in 40 seconds … one lady shaved 40 seconds off her running time,” Miss Buchanan said.
“The biggest benefit has been increased confidence.”
The majority of exercises can be done without equipment and Miss Buchanan said this allowed women to continue with their training or to keep working with the group.
“Once you do group exercise it’s hard to quit it … you get into a rhythm with your friends and eating right,” she said.
“It becomes part of your lifestyle and routine.”
Miss Buchanan said once a routine was established it became easier to keep pushing.
