Record numbers of families, locals and visitors flocked to the Junee Rhythm ‘n Rail Festival despite a new $10 entry fee.
Music filled the air while children enjoyed sausages, face painting and rides.
Car enthusiasts could peruse a wide range of cars including hot rods and classic vehicles.
Member for Burrinjuck Katrina Hodgkinson, who is vying for the newly created Cootamundra seat in the state election, joined in on the fun.
Ms Hodgkinson nearly won the chocolate eating competition and was just inched out by singer Holly Tapp.
“She was four points ahead of me,” Ms Hodgkinson, a self confessed chocolate lover, said.
Ms Hodgkinson had a busy day in Junee – meeting and greeting prospective voters, business owners and enjoying all the shire had to offer.
“The people of Junee are brilliant country people and I really enjoyed meeting them,” Ms Hodgkinson said.
“Campaign time is one of my favourite times because I love getting out in the electorate and spending time with community.
“I enjoy the country and the fresh air.”
Councillor Smith said the event would make money and continued to be an excellent asset to Junee and the wider Riverina.
“The Ukulele group have to be a highlight,” Cr Smith said of the Canberra-based troupe who entertained crowds.
“The fact that there is now a free kids area shows that we have really improved.
“Communities need to have a sense of pride and Junee has that in spades.”
Kids were entertained by a free rugby league clinic operated by the Junee Diesels and the NRL.
Junee Junior Rugby League president Gavin Lamb said the activities inspired young children and gave them exposure to the sport.
“It’s our first time here and it’s been great,” Mr Lamb said.
President of the Junee Motor Club Kevin Longmore was pleased with the club’s third display at the festival.
“We have cars on display from 1916 right up to the ’70s and ’80s and late models,” Mr Longmore said.
