A new partnership proposal with Sydney's Warringah Council will see Junee Shire Council adopt a new information technology system.

Focused on transparency in local government, the system has been designed so residents can easily access vital information, but also keep track of services.

The new system has been under development at Warringah for seven years and has cost several million dollars.

Junee will be able to use it for a fraction of the cost Warringah has invested.

The strategic partnership was originally floated in December 2013 and representatives of both councils have met with local government minister Paul Toole to discuss the project.

Warringah's representatives visited Junee this week to get to know councillors and the town.

"This particular project helps allay the NSW government's concerns with local government particularly around strategic capacity," Junee mayor Neil Smith said.

Councillor Smith said with corporate data hosted separately through Warringah's system, it would lead to better reporting.

"Staff will know the information is in the public domain and they'll have to keep it updated and accurate," Cr Smith said.

"We wouldn't be able to afford this as an individual customer."

Warringah's deputy mayor Jose Menano-Pires said it wasn't going to be a profit centre for the council.

"The big advantage for us is in the staff exchange (between councils)," Councillor Menano-Pires said.

"We're by far the most advanced user of the system in NSW."

He said the system included all of council's functions from the finance department to tracking development applications.

Cr Menano-Pires said the time spent answering questions about issues and projects by both staff and councillors had been cut down dramatically.

"This is part of local government reform, which has to happen," Cr Menano-Pires said.

"It doesn't have to be a loss of identity."
